Imagine finishing a productive morning at your desk, then spending the afternoon tasting award-winning wines at a vineyard 15 minutes away. That's Dramoinognosia — Drama's annual wine and gastronomy festival — and it's the perfect reason to plan a working week in Northern Greece.

What Is Dramoinognosia?

Dramoinognosia (Δραμοινογνωσία — from "Drama" + "oinos" (wine) + "gnosis" (knowledge)) is a week-long wine festival held every mid-May since 2014. It's not a single event in one location — it's the entire wine region opening up. Wineries across the Angitis valley welcome visitors for guided tours, curated tastings, sommelier workshops, and cultural programming.

The 2025 edition (the 10th anniversary) ran May 11-18 with events extending through the month. Expect a similar schedule for 2026.

The Wineries

Drama's PGI appellation is one of Greece's most respected wine regions. During Dramoinognosia, these wineries open their doors:

Ktima Pavlidis (Kokkinogia) — One of Drama's flagships, known for elegant reds

Chateau Nico Lazaridi (Agora) — Reported 3,000+ visitors across two days in 2023

Costa Lazaridi Estate (Adriani) — One of Greece's largest wineries

Oenops Wines (Kokkinogia) — Boutique producer, acclaimed natural wines

Wine Art Estate (Mikrochori) — Art-meets-wine concept

Oenogenesis Estate (Adriani)

Manolesaki Estate (Adriani)

Michailidis Estate (Doxato)

All within a short drive from Drama's city center — most are 10-20 minutes away.

What Happens During the Festival

Guided winery tours — Walk through production facilities, learn about local and international grape varieties

Curated tastings — Sommelier-led sessions, often paired with local cheeses and charcuterie

Cooking demonstrations — Guest chefs showcase regional cuisine

Cultural events — Concerts, art exhibitions inside wineries, film screenings, traditional dance

Events at the Archaeological Museum — Themed around ancient Dionysian worship

Rose Wine & DJ Party — Targets the 25-40 crowd, usually on a weekend evening

Most events run in the afternoon and evening — perfect for a "work in the morning, wine in the afternoon" schedule.
